Elgin Family Pet Center is a full service, AAHA accredited animal hospital with a Veterinarian team of licensed veterinarians, highly trained and compassionate about treating dogs and cats.  Your pets health and well being are very important to us and we will take every step to give your pet the best possible care in our advanced facility.

  • Dr. Leslie Sirmons, DVM

    Dr. Leslie Sirmons, DVM

    Veterinarian / Owner
    Dr. Leslie Sirmons is a 1996 graduate of Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she practiced mixed animal practice in San Angelo, Texas before joining the team at the Elgin Veterinary Hospital (EVH) in 1997--now Elgin Family Pet Center.  In 2013, she was awarded the title of Companion Animal Practitioner of the Year from the Texas Veterinary Medical Association.

    ​Dr. Sirmons enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine and is proud to be a member of the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practitioners, American Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, and the American Association of Feline Practitioners.

    On her free time, Dr. Sirmons enjoys endurance sports and has completed several triathlons.  She completed a half marathon while raising over $3500 for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.  Dr. Sirmons' proudest accomplishment is her family, especially her daughter Nicole.
  • Dr. Sergio Hernandez, DVM

    Dr. Sergio Hernandez, DVM

    Veterinarian / Owner
    Dr. Sergio Hernandez graduated from the charter class of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Queretaro in Queretaro, Mexico in 1990. While in Mexico, he owned and operated a mixed animal hospital.  In 1997 Dr. Hernandez came to the United States to pursue further studies in Veterinary Medicine.  He fell in love with the opportunities to practice state of the art veterinary medicine, remained in the states and obtained his accreditation through the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.  Dr. Hernandez practiced small animal medicine and surgery in Pflugerville and Giddings through 2012 until he and his wife, Dr. Sirmons, purchased EFPC.  He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Dental Society. He has special interests in soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, internal medicine, and preventative medicine. He enjoys biking, swimming, competitive sports and spending time with his family.​
  • Dr. Sarah Hokanson, DVM

    Dr. Sarah Hokanson, DVM

    Associate Veterinarian
    Dr. Hokanson is a graduate of Texas A&M.  She has a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Science a Masters in Entomology and graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2010.  Dr. Hokanson is a member of American Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association and Capital Area Veterinary Medical Association.  She has also been published in Veterinary Parasitology.

    Dr. Hokanson has a special interest in internal medicine and exotics. She enjoys horseback riding, blowing glass, hiking, running and socializing with friends and family.
  • Dr. Alex Canfield, DVM

    Associate Veterinarian
    Dr. Canfield is a recent graduate from Louisianna State University. She is born and raised in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She obtained a degree in Aminal Science at the University of Arkansas and a minor in Spanish. She relocated to Baton Rouge for 4 years and completed Veterinary school.

    Dr Carnfield is excited to start a new chapter of her life at Elgin Family Pet Center. In her free time she enjoys anything outdoors including hiking, or running with her German Shorthair Pointer, Kate. She also has a senior Great Dane, Max, who enjoys laying on the couch while Dr. Canfield and Kate explore outdoors.
  • Barbara Terway

    Barbara Terway

    Executive Director
    Barbara joined our family in April of 2003 as a Receptionist and Accounts Receivable Specialist. She quickly advanced her knowledge to become one of our skilled Veterinary Technicians. Barbara left us for a brief time 2007 but, returned in 2008 to become our Executive Director.  She played a key role in the successful AAHA accreditation we received in 2009. When Barbara is not busy coordinating the operations of the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her three children and her extended canine family.
  • Lola Saucedo

    Lola Saucedo

    Director of Medical Services
    Lola has been a part of the EFPC family since 2007.  She started out in the kennel and worked her way up.   Lola is a Certified Veterinary Assistant I & II.  She has also completed a number of trainings through the Veterinary Practice Solutions (VPS).  Lola always goes above and beyond for pets and their owners.

    Lola is an Elgin native and enjoys spending time with her family, which includes a few four-leggers.
  • Fran Cates

    Fran Cates

    Director of Technical Services / Lead Receptionist
    Fran is the familiar and comforting face many relate to Elgin Family Pet Center.  She has been with Elgin Family Pet Center, previously Elgin Vet Hospital for twelve years.  Her knowledge and warming manner draws many to her.  From keeping Accounts Receivable straight to giving gentle kind words to clients facing loss, she is always there.  Fran was raised in California and has lived overseas and other areas stateside, but fell in love with the Texas weather.  During Fran's free time she enjoys spending time with her family and her many animals.
  • Ali Castro

    Ali Castro

    Lead Lab Technician
    Ali is originally from California and has lived in Texas since 2008.  She attended a Veterinary Technician Program in Aurora, Colorado and graduated in June 2008. Ali holds a certification in Veterinary Assistance Levels 1 and 2.  She has been a part of the EFPC family since 2011.

    Ali is partial to the pug breed and owns nine, yes nine, of her own.  She also has two Thoroughbred horses.  In her spare time Ali likes to go fishing and riding with her family.
  • Sarah Moerbe

    Inpatient Technician
    Sarah is one of our awesome, Inpatient Technicians. She has joined out team recently, after serving our country proudly in the United States Navy. She is a great asset to our team and cares passionately about all pets and animals. She is a proud mom to 2 furbabies (in picture) Odes & Tig. She also has a horse named Gilbert. Sarah likes to team rope and spend her free time with friends and family.
  • Shanna DeShazo

    Kennel Technician
    Shanna joined our team recently with experience in the pet grooming field and is looking forward to learning to be a Veterinarian Technician soon. She has a beautiful daughter and 4 fur-babies at home that keep her busy. She loves art, nature and all animals.
